The audience of the genre of hardcore music is usually males
due to the type of music and the feelings that are associated with the lyrics
of the songs. However there is a fair few females that listen to this genre but
not as many as males. The songs are generally focused at men I think because of
the heaviness of the songs and the tunings. The listeners’ age doesn’t have a
definitive age but I would say that the average would be 16-25 year olds.
People younger than 16 would struggle to get into shows and gigs because the
average age to be let in is 16+. The bands that are associated to 16-25 year
olds because of the lyrics which is also in the song. The majority of band
members are over the ages of 18 and 19.
The genre could be associated with older people because of
when it started out. It started out on the back of punk and then slowly
overtook it in popularity. Younger people that listen to it because of the
rebellious side represented by it and the more the media publicise its upcoming
popularity the more the younger people start listening to it.
The audience usually
find a haven in the music and can escape when listening to it. Outsiders to the
genre think its noise but to fans of it, it provides self-security and an
immense feeling of belonging. As well as a music genre its often described as a
family which listeners will search for, a community that they feel accepts them
for who they are.
